Hanazawa Kana has arrived

Well, yes, all the oni do seem to have different/unique powers, but Ran isn't an oni. The only oni we've seen in this show so far are Lum and her dad (unless you count all the nameless oni that are part of Lum's dad's armada). All the other aliens have been a different race: Kurama was a karasu-tengu, Benten was a lucky god, Oyuki was a yuki-onna (or you could also say she's Neptunian), and Ran is a succubus. Though, the guy Ran is in love with and mentions, Rei, is an oni.

I know this. I was thinking about Rei, the toddler and it kinda just struck me during the episode, cause I watch the same episode number of the old one after this. And I had just never thought about it before. Also. I have the YT clip of Rei saying 'gun' saved. Which is part of what made me actually realize this.

A principal with a big catto, Lum finally starting school, baby Lum, a tiger holding a Lum voodoo doll and a cute girl with a split personality is one hell of a episode

Probably one of the most antecipated episodes, the introduction of Ran in the new series. Under Ran's sweet looking face lies a girl tormented by her past, her past with Lum to be more exact, and if there's one thing that Ran absolutely has...is persistence.

Noticed the anime staff gave her the ability to fly, she didn't had that in the original series but it makes sense why the added it. Surprisingly the other characters barely questioned Ran and Ataru's attempts at kissing, aside from Lum of course trying to save her Darling from having his youth sucked out. If Ran has persistence Ataru has that x1000.

Ran's revenge scheme continues later on with a party invitation for Lum and Ataru, delivered by a small Ran robotic doll...nothing suspicious here.

Despite having a letter explode in her face, Lum still decides to trust her childhood friend, arriving along with Ataru to a completely normal and totally non alien like residence. Ataru ends up going for a walk around the "house" but soon finds himself lost, glad he found someone to hangout in there though, they both got along pretty nicely.

The episode ends with Ran getting frustrated with her last plan failing miserably, in the meantime Ataru still wants that kiss, unaware of the fact that she's an alien despite that huge indication right in front of him...wouldn't stop him though.

Amazing and really fun episode, looking forward to the next one!

Really sad how fast the passing is in the new version. Lot of missed content or changed to less enjoyable of how it happened.

Great to see yandere Ran with every reason to hate Lum. lol.All of Ran's problems that made her twisted was because of Lum. LoL.

Rei and Ran the most obnoxious of the aliens. One is monster in appearance and apetite and the other has their inner monster.

They got it wrong though. Ran still would go for Ataru regardless of interest in Rei and losing him to Lum. She wanted to steal Ataru from Lum also to get back at her at first and and wasn't entirely against Ataru's interest and vice versa.

Not surprising. Just from this episode alone it appears her desire to get with Ataru is primarily born of a desire to mess with Lum and steal her man, rather than actually wanting Ataru.

For now he has very little affection for Lum though as he finds her annoying, he change much later but yeah/.

If they are going to use the same characters and storylines, they should use similar sounds, music and designs as well. I miss the classic audio and art styles that made it so memorable and iconic.

Something not right here.
Moroboshi Ataru was the Hero of the Earth right?
He was known as the chosen one who had competition with Lum right? He caught her and earth was saved right?
Most people should have known him for that. He should be famous or infamous if you would like to.
However, watching these plots., it as if Episode 1 and 2 like never been happened.. weird.

also, he rejects Lum is weird and illogical. I can understand if he wants to be loyal to Shinobu. But his action is like playboy scumbag idiot. He chase every girl he sees except Lum. Weird, if he is a playboy, he should have also chases Lum. Also, his idiocy is weird., For example, in this episode, there is already proof the effect of Ran's kiss, but Ataru still going crazy.

To clarify, here are my observations from 80s version (seen around 30 episodes so far):

Emphasis is given on how Ataru quickly becomes more infamous than famous (because he keeps attracting weird annoying aliens and generally destroying the peace of the town). Multiple episodes involve Ataru's family being embarrassed by the mayhem caused (as a consequence) of him and Lum. People generally regard him as a weirdo in the negative sense.

Lum asked Ataru "don't you love me?" Ataru replies "Yes, just like I do every other girl in the world". Ataru makes it pretty clear he wants nothing more than freedom to chase after any girl he likes, and he sees Lum as someone who tries to deny him that freedom (and usually succeeds due to her special powers).

I think Ataru also admitted that he will get weak due to Ran's kiss, but basically says he doesn't care lol (he also often risks his life and faces almost certain death just to hit on girls).

Finally, this series is episodic in nature in the original and usually ends each episode with the town (or Ataru) royally screwed and continues in the next like nothing happened. It was made so that nobody needed to see the older episodes to enjoy the newer ones (though there's a loose plot being followed every time a new character is introduced).

The best way to think of it is that every 10 eps, 1 of them will build the plot, but that 1 episode happens somewhere in the middle and the other 9 episodes completely ignore it.

Dude you are wrong he like cheas other girl because of Lum . When Lum visit her family without say anything to Ataru. That time Ataru realize that without Lum girl- hunting is boring than he cry for Lum alot (other side Lum know all that her husband cry because of her ) . Ataru like Lum most .

PS: Ataru is first male tsundere 🤣 (80s) can't confession until the end of manga . Most male tsundere character conference the girl that he like than the tsundere end . But Ataru is different.

Agree regarding Ataru and Lum. I don’t get why Ataru rejects Lum despite how the other girls he tries to flirt with treats him just as badly. If they’re gonna just beat him up, he at least would pick the one that actually likes him. Really, the only exception would probably be “at least” Oyuki.
